Welcome to ERRS - The EOSE Reference Retrieval System

What is the EOSE Reference Retrieval System ( ERRS )?

The EOSE Reference Retrieval System ( ERRS ) is a unique information resource for those interested in European research findings on Employment, Training and Skills for the Sport & Sport Related Sectors. It aims to catalogue work planned, in progress and completed.

The ERRS consists of a detailed catalogue of material in the above-listed areas. A number of tools, both simple and sophisticated, are available for users to access the material in the catalogue, and to analyse it.

Each catalogue entry describes and profiles a piece of labour market or workforce research using a detailed set of rules and a range of tag values, together with an abstract of the material.

Who is the ERRS for?

The material in this catalogue is aimed at researchers in the areas of the Employment, Training and Skills. A typical user might be from a University research department, Observatory or from a Regional Authority, or those about to start new statistical research into labour market demographics in the sports industry sector. This catalogue also includes materials on skills, training and pertinent to those industries.

If you are planning a new research study, the ERRS may be used to help locate prior material on the relevant factors, to identify gaps in the current research coverage, and to confirm you are not inadvertently duplicating work.

How is the ERRS used?

A full help system and information is available here – this can also be reached at any time by clicking on the info (i) icon on the menu bar to the left. However a brief explanation of the main tools is shown here:-

· You can perform a rapid search on catalogue entries by typing a word or word phrase into the search input box at the top of the screen. This will search the relevant file target word or phrase.

· You can choose a more advanced filtered search of the contents of the catalogue, by choosing “advanced search” and selecting particular words for the value of the particular fields. This is a sophisticated search tool using Venn diagram parameters which will show clearly the search profile you have chosen

· You can browse the contents of the catalogue by clicking on browse control at the top of the screen. This provides access to an automatically expandable hierarchy of catalogued reports. You may browse by a number of different parameters, such as Sector or Locality. The number of items catalogued in each sector is shown in brackets after each category and subcategory heading.

How was the ERRS built?

The main core of the research materials available from the ERRS are informative and searchable descriptions of the knowledge held within research reports and entered by the National or Regional Observatory for your country. Individual researchers and research organisations can submit reports for inclusion to their National Observatory or direct to EOSE at www.eose.net The idea is that once a report is listed researchers should be able to gain an understanding of the report contents without having to read the report itself. A full description of the cataloguing rules may be read here, but briefly, catalogued information includes information such as:-

· Who created the materials?
· When the research was published?
· How large was the study?
· Where was the geographic emphasis
· Which body(s) funded/commissioned the work?
· What type of work was commissioned; survey, forecast?
· What were the topics covered?
· What findings were revealed?

In some cases, by clicking on a displayed link the original report can be seen or downloaded.

Browse

This tool allows you to browse through the contents of the catalogue by following an expandable ‘tree’ of categories and subcategories. The category to browse by must first be selected using the drop-down menu. Once this is done, the catalogue tree appears, this may be expanded or contracted as required by using the plus and minus icons.
